'I won't be allowed to run 'cause I'm poor,' says emotional senatorial aspirant

Senatorial aspirant Bethsaida Lopez

Expressing her sentiments on the Commission on Elections' (Comelec’s) current selection process and standards, senatorial aspirant Bethsaida Lopez once again mettled her luck to get a seat in the government, filing a certificate of candidacy for the 2022 polls on Friday, October 8, at the Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

"Malupit ang Comelec. Napakaganda ng plataporma ko. Napakaganda ng ginagawa kong plataporma para sa taumbayan. Pero hindi ako patatakbuhin dahil isa akong mahirap...I am sorry, Comelec, I have all the respect for you. But bakit gagawa ako ng kabutihan pero ayaw ninyo akong patakbuhin (Comelec is cruel. I have a lot of good plans for my countrymen, but I won't be allowed to run because I'm poor. I am sorry, Comelec, I have all the respect for you. But why am I not allowed to run despite having good intentions)?" she said during her speech.

Calling herself "Ang Tunay na Senador ng Bayan" (The Country's Real Senator), Lopez also challenged Pres. Duterte to give her a chance to run for a Senate seat to be able to help all the Filipinos who are suffering amind the current situation.

"President Rodrigo Duterte...hinamon kita para sa tunay na pagbabago, hinahamon kita ngayon para patakbuhin ako bilang senador ng atin bansa (President Rodrigo Duterte, I challenged you to bring change, now, I am challenging you to give me a chance to run for Senator)," she asked.

"Gagawa ako ng kabutihan sa taumbayan para man lang mabawasan 'yong paghihirap namin (I will do my best for our countrymen, hoping to ease their sufferings amid trying times like this)," the aspirant promised.
