Gwen files COC in seeking 3rd term as Cebu governor

CEBU CITY – Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia on Friday officially filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for her reelection bid in next year’s elections.

The governor then threw shade at her opponent, former Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, who has filed her COC for governor on Thursday.

“We are the best, so don’t settle for just a better Cebu because Cebu right now is already the best ug ipadayon nato ang Sugbo pagka numero uno (and let’s continue the number one status of Cebu),” Garcia added.

Some billboards bearing Durano’s face with texts “A better Cebu” have surfaced in Metro Cebu.

Garcia was also asked to comment on Durano’s pronouncement that he decided to run so the province can have a better healthcare system.

Durano also criticized the way the governor has managed the COVID-19 situation in the province.

”It is an exercise in futility to respond to a Johnny-come-lately whom we have not seen or heard from all these months, in fact, a year and a half, while we were struggling in the pandemic,” Garcia said.

“I don’t think that deserves any comment at all. If this were coming from someone who had been working very hard in all of these months had contributed several bags of rice or maybe even one kilo of rice or even one can of sardines, maybe I would respond,” the governor added.

Garcia filed her candidacy under the One Cebu Party and the ruling PDP-Laban.

One Cebu has yet to announce the national candidates that it will be supporting.
