De Castro, who served as vice president in 2004, is returning to politics to run for senator.

Be vigilant because COVID-19 threat is still there. Thank you so much for listening to me over the past years on radio and television)," De Castro said in his morning program "Kabayan."

He was first elected to the Senate after receiving the most votes of any Senator in the 2001 election but did not finish his 6-year term after winning the vice presidency three years later.

De Castro is expected to take an oath Thursday to become a member of Manila Mayor Isko's Aksyon Demokratiko party.

Most popularly known as "Kabayan," de Castro returned to broadcasting in 2010 after his term ended.

He anchored various television and radio shows for ABS-CBN, including "Magandang Gabi, Bayan" and "TV Patrol."
