The Department of Science and Technology-Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) has trained personnel of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on the use of dual-drum composter, one of its green technologies.
DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said a virtual training was conducted by ITDI, benefitting 15 employees of Meralco.
"The requested training was to help their logistics team be familiar with the operation and maintenance of two dual-drum composters they acquired from L. Angeles Machineries Corporation (LAMACO),” he said in a report.
The motorized dual-drum composter was developed for the management of biodegradable solid waste with compost as end product.
“Meralco has launched its Zero Waste Program to intensify the company’s solid waste management practices,” de la Peña said.
“Based on their waste analysis and characterization study (WACS), biodegradable wastes account for 60 percent of their total waste generated, which can be diverted from their landfills through efficient and effective composting practice.”
The virtual training was conducted on Sept. 22 and 24.
