Mr. M recalls how AlDub made ABS-CBN executives 'panic'

Remember when "AlDub" was a big hit a few years ago?

Apparently, AlDub's success alarmed the Kapamilya network, adding the broadcast network was threatened for a moment.

This was revealed by talent maker Johnny "Mr. M" Manahan during an interview on "The Howie Severino Podcast" recently.

Severino asked Manahan about his reaction to the tandem of Alden Richards and Maine "Yaya Dub" in 2015.

"Nataranta sila ru'n sa success nila Maine, ni Alden. And panic sila. 'Wala ba tayong ganyan?' Ang sagot ko, 'Mayroon kaming talent dito. Alam naming may talent pero ayaw n'yong gamitin,'" Manahan recalled.

"Ang dami niyan. Naka-ano 'yan sa notebook. At least ten, really talented people. Pero hindi pinapansin ng mga executive. So 'yun ang mistake. They didn't look closer at what we had."

Mr. M said it was then that he actually noticed GMA was willing to "gamble a little and field the newbies all the time."

And he thinks it's an effective strategy.

"The more people you field, may tatama ru'n, e. Kung ang sinalang mo lang dalawa, 50-50 'yung chance mo pero kung sampu o 20 ang sinalang mo, the odds are more... You come up with more stars," he related. "So ayun. Taranta sila kay Alden at saka si Maine."
