Gadgets and more await lucky teachers on World Teachers' Day 2021 celebration

Just like in the previous years, among the most awaited segments during the World Teachers’ Day (WTD) celebration are raffle draws where prizes usually include high-end products.

For this year’s WTD celebration, these raffle draws will be more anticipated by teachers since the prizes -- which include gadgets, equipment and other electronic goods -- are more in demand especially under the distance or blended learning set-up.

Undersecretary Tonisito Umali, during the virtual press briefing on Friday, Oct. 1, shared these raffle draws are just some of the activities for the WTD celebration this year.

“Ang focus natin dito ay yung pagkilala sa mga guro natin (Our focus here is to honor our teachers),” Umali said.

Umali shared that the WTD celebration started on Sept. 5 which is also the kick off event for the National Teachers’ Month (NTM).

In the Philippines, a month-long celebration to recognize the significant role of teachers in educating the Filipino children is held through the NTM starting Sept. 5 before its culmination on Oct. 5 which is the celebration of the National Teachers’ Day (NTD) and the WTD.

Aside from the prizes in the raffle draws, Umali said both the public and private sector is also one with DepEd in celebrating the WTD by holding webinars and provision of free tickets and discounts for teachers and their dependents, among others.

This year, Umali said that the WTD celebration will be held in Lahug, Cebu City.

“There will be video presentations highlighting the sacrifices of our teachers to make sure that our basic education learning continuity plan shall continue,” he added.

For the first time this year, Umali said that teachers in higher education and technical vocational education as well as those in the private sector will be recognized and included in the activities as well.
