The long-standing lockdown has led us to learn new things and find out different leisure activities to ease our boredom; from gaining new hobbies to acquiring a hidden skill, this quarantine has definitely given us a challenge.
Speaking of challenge, have you ever wondered how to catch an Impostor? Launched in 2018, Among Us is a multiplayer online mobile gaming app of teamwork and betrayal. The scene of the game takes place on a spaceship wherein you are able to play with 4-10 players whether local or international. The goal of the game is simple; besides catching the impostor, each player must complete the tasks in order to get home.
Once the game has begun, your role in Among Us is picked at random. A player can either be a common crewmate or an impostor and depending on the number of players, you can have at least 2 impostors. The impostor’s goal, whose identities are hidden, is to sabotage and kill each crewmate without getting caught. Wanna know how to ace the game?
As an Impostor:
On a personal level, being an Impostor in the game is the most fun role to play. Aside from killing your fellow crewmates, you get to call the bluff and point the blame to one of the players. As an Impostor you need to:
- Make sure no one else is looking when you kill a crewmate
The goal of an impostor is to refrain the crewmates from getting home. How? By killing every single one of them without getting caught. Make sure when targeting a crewmate you must be alone or with a fellow impostor (that is if there are two impostors in the game).
- Have a good excuse; try pointing it on others
When a crewmate has been killed, emergency meetings commence. All crewmates come together to discuss who could be the impostor. All crewmates will insinuate their innocence; but of course, the true Impostor must make sure all crewmates believe that it wasn’t them and points it to someone else.
- Know the Map and where your other crewmates are at
There are certain areas in the spaceship where only the impostor can hide -- the vents. Although you must be mindful, all crewmates can get access to the CCTV footage of the spaceship through the security room. The advantage of the impostor is that upon hiding in the vents, the CCTV available in that area lights up when someone is watching. An impostor should make the most out of the CCTV before coming out of their hiding to avoid getting caught.
As a Crewmate:
Being a crewmate in the game is also quite challenging given that the goal is to complete tasks in order to get home. As a crewmate, refrain from getting killed and catch whoever amongst your crewmates is the impostor. To avoid these mishaps here are some tips you should remember:
- Do your tasks when there are other crewmates around
Completing tasks is an important role of a crewmate since it is the only way for everyone to win the game and avoid getting killed. It is better to be in groups you trust. Although this might be a risky strategy, an impostor avoids crewmates who are in groups since he/she can only kill one crewmate at a time.
- Be mindful of your surroundings, you’ll never know which of your crewmates is really the impostor
As much as teamwork is important when completing tasks, never feel complacent with your crewmates. Remember, it is also the Impostor’s goal to make you believe that they are just a fellow crewmate. They could just easily pretend to do tasks in order for you to be comfortable with them. And once you let your guard down, they'll make a way to sabotage and kill you.
Among Us has definitely given a good bond to both friends and family especially this quarantine. I recommend playing Among Us through game nights via Zoom with your fellow players to feel its full experience of teamwork and betrayal.
