Lawyer Elvira Cruz, district collector of the BOC Port of Cgayan de Oro said the destruction occurred inside the facility of Terra Cycliq Corporation in Brgy. Mantibugao, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon where the smuggled items were incinerated and buried in a pit inside the destruction facility.

The onions were seized by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service CDO (CIIS-CDO) based on intelligence report regarding the shipment from China which was declared to contain “cream cheese” and “frozen puff pastries”.

The shipment was consigned to JDFallar Consumer Goods Trading and arrived at the Mindanao Container Terminal Sub-port on August 10, 2021.

In a statement, District Collector Cruz reiterated her warning against unscrupulous importers that misdeclaration of goods defrauds the government of its rightful revenues.

A case for violation of the CMTA will be filed against the consignee of the smuggled goods.
