'Dugo-dugo' gang swindles 15-year-old in Dasmariñas, Cavite

DASMARIÑAS, Cavite – Authorities are now looking for a scammer who duped a 15-year-old girl into giving her cash, jewelry, and gadgets in typical "dugo-dugo" modus operandi.

On a Facebook post on Sunday (September 26), Dasmariñas lone district Rep. Elpidio Barzaga, Jr. warned his constituents against the "dugo-dugo" incident that happened on September 21.

"Dugo-dugo" is a modus operandi wherein the perpetrator dupes unsuspecting household members into believing that their employers figured in an accident or medical emergency and need them to hand over their employer's cash and other valuables.

The female suspect reportedly called the victim and said that the victim's mother figured in an accident and injured a child. The suspect claimed that the mother needed to pay for medical bills and directed the victim to take her mother's gold bracelet, a laptop, a cellphone, and cash amounting to P7,500, and meet the suspect near a fast-food restaurant.

CCTV footage near the meeting place caught an image of the suspect.

Barzaga announced a P25,000 reward for anyone who can offer information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
