Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said this on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

"After consultation with Comelec officials, and in consideration of the public clamor, it is likely that an extension of the period of voter registration will be granted," he said in a statement.

Jimenez said the matter of extension of voter registration will be taken up by the en banc on Wednesday, Sept.29.

The poll official earlier said that the management committee (ManCom) meeting on the issue of voter registration extension was already held Monday.

"We had the management committee meeting earlier today where the chairman (Sheriff Abas) and the commissioners consulted with different regional directors and officials of Comelec," Jimenez said.

"They are all there and they listened to the arguments. They participated in the discussions, but they reserved judgment until later when they meet," he added.

The voter registration period for the May 2022 polls is set to end on Sept. 30, 2021.
