Informal settlers in Brgy. Purisima, Tago, Surigao Del Sur received a huge surprise recently with businessman-philanthropist Bon Salinas dropping by to celebrate his 45th birthday with them.

With Bon is his good friend, veteran singer-actor Richard Reynoso.

Foregoing the usual celebration, Bon, together with Richard, spearheaded the distribution of food packs to more than 500 families there as assisted by health workers from Brgy. Purisima as led by Brgy Capt. Eva Gemao.

Bon believes that providing the families rice and canned goods will better serve them and for a longer time than just serving them cooked meals.

The endeavor was welcomed by the recipients, appreciating the gesture as a welcome thought amid the pandemic with mostly everyone challenged with meeting their own needs.

Note that Bon is among huge supporters of Manila Bulletin’s Bag Of Hope initiative, which is geared towards helping families displaced by the ongoing pandemic.

Bon is also an ardent ally of local entertainment.

Last year, he organized a concert benefiting musicians struggling for work amid the ongoing pandemic.

His “Online Gig For A Cause,” featured performances from Richard as with several other OPM stalwarts including Dulce, Chad Borja, Renz Verano, Rannie Raymundo, the Workshop Band, Keon, Dindo & Ryan Acoustic Duo, Alvin Santoyo, and DJ Janice Dizon.

Bon, who is president and CEO of Brent System Corporation, a company that provides leading OEM high-definition CCTV systems and other cutting-edge security solutions, has been continuously making great effort to provide help to those in need.

Richard made it big in the ‘80s carving immortal OPM classics with such songs as "Hindi Ko Kaya," "Paminsan-minsan" and "Maalala Mo Pa Rin."
