Angono LGU mourns death of town police chief

The municipal government of Angono, Rizal has expressed sympathy over the death of the town police chief.

In a text message sent to Manila Bulletin, Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said the death of Lt. Col. Noel Andrade Campos is a big loss to the entire municipality, especially during this time of pandemic.

Calderon said Campos’ dedication and hard work in matters of public safety and order were indefinable, especially in enforcing the health and safety protocols in the entire town.

Police personnel at the Angono Police Station told Manila Bulletin that based on the initial information that reached the station, Campos, who was supposed to reach his first year as the town’s chief of police in December, died of a heart attack.

Sergeant Norodin Untong, a staff of the Police Community Relations of the Angono Police Station, said Campos’ wit and humor during casual conversations with his men will always be remembered.

Untong said he and his fellow cops were shocked upon hearing the news about Campos’ death early morning of Sept. 28.

The policeman said Campos even talked to most of them in the police station the other day in a very light manner just like what he used to do.

“Mahilig siyang magbiro kaya magaan ang loob namin sa pagtatrabaho (He was fond of making jokes that is why our work is not burdensome),” Untong said.

It was learned that a policeman who is confined in an isolation facility due to COVID-19 was surprised upon receiving a phone call on Sept. 27, Monday, from Campos himself.

Mayor Calderon said policemen, under the supervision of Lt. Col. Campos, have contributed in the local government’s effort to prevent further surge of COVID-19 by conducting regular check points and inspections in the town.
