DOST provincial S&T center exec dies


An official of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) who headed the provincial science and technology center (PSTC) in Cavite has died.

Provincial S&T Center Director in Cavite Raul D. Castañeda passed away, the DOST-Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) said in a Facebook post on Monday, Sept. 27. He was 60.

"DOST-Calabarzon laments the loss of our Provincial S&T Center Director in Cavite, Engr. Raul D. Castañeda,” the post read.

Castañeda had been with the DOST-Calabarzon family since 1991, it said.

“It was during his able leadership that the first Provincial Center in Calabarzon, and the first PSTC-operated Laboratory in the country, the Cavite Water and Wastewater Testing Laboratory, were established.”

“He was also the president of the Association of the Provincial S&T Directors in the Philippines where his dedication and perseverance on lobbying the passage of the Provincial S&T Office (PSTO) Bill was greatly admired.”

The DOST-Calabarzon noted that Castañeda was named Best Provincial S&T Director in Region IV in 1994 and 2003, and in Calabarzon in 2009 and 2010 for “his strong commitment to public service.”

"We sympathize deeply with the bereaved family of PD (Provincial Director) Raul. May his soul rest in peace.”
