1 killed, 15 rescued in capsized ferry in Ormoc City


TACLOBAN CITY - A female crew member was killed, while 15 were rescued, two of which were injured when a ferryboat capsized at Ormoc City Port, Brgy. District 2, Ormoc City, Friday night (September 24).

Initial investigation disclosed that LCT Lite Ferry 3 capsized during its docking maneuver at the Ormoc City Port coming from Ouano Wharf in Mandaue City, Cebu.

Responding authorities from the coastguard and police saw the vessel floating.

Its starboard side was submerged in water while the life rescuers from Philippine Coastguard were rescued by the crew members.

The investigation further revealed that the cause of the incident was the loss of stability due to huge waves.The rescued crew members were brought to the Philippine Coastguard headquarters in Ormoc.

Meanwhile, the reported crew member missing was found lifelessly floating. She was identified as Raquel Alo from Balilihan, Bohol.The vessel reported no passengers on board.

The PCG has ordered to secure the area for a possible oil spill.
