PT&T appoints Roberto Ortiz as chairman


PT&T Corp. announced on Friday, Sept. 24, the appointment of Roberto B. Ortiz as chairman of the board.

As the PT&T expands its footprint nationwide and solidify its digital transformation services, Ortiz’s entry is "timely as we shift gear towards raising funds and start our investor roadshows", James Velasquez, PT&T director and chief executive said.

Currently, PT&T covers almost 40 percent of the total Philippine population, with a network reach of 22,800 fiber kilometers in high-growth areas.

"I look forward to working with the executive team to drive forward the company’s strategy and ensuring that it continues to create significant value for all stakeholders,” the new chairman said.

Ortiz has been an independent director of the company since 2018.

His appointment follows a thorough selection process led by the Nomination Committee of the Board, to allow its former chairman, Salvador T. Zamora II, to focus on personal endeavors outside the company.

Zamora will continue to serve as non-executive director of PT&T.

Ortiz has over 27 years of experience in Finance, Corporate Governance, and Investment Banking.

He is also a director of various local and multinational corporations.

He worked for Price Waterhouse (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) from 1987-1994 focusing on strategic financial management, valuation, investment banking, and operations management.

Ortiz also served as the vice-president for finance of Consolidated Industrial Gases, Inc. from 1994 to 2003.

He was the chief finance officer of All Asian Countertrade, Inc. and its subsidiaries, Sweet Crystals Integrated Sugar Mill Corp. and Basecom Inc. from 2003 to 2009.

He served as director and CFO of Total Nutrition Corporation since 2010. Currently, Ortiz is also a director and CFO of Premiere Horizon Alliance Corporation (PHA) formerly Premiere Entertainment Philippines, Inc.

Due to his extensive experience in finance, he also serves as a financial advisor of various companies engaged in fintech and stock market investment.

He graduated from Ateneo de Manila University in 1973 with a degree in B.S. in Management Engineering.
