After receiving shelter assistance, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) provided Catanduanes cash grants for people who lost their livelihood due to the typhoon.
PRC continues to provide much needed aid to communities affected by the strongest cyclone to hit the country last year, Super Typhoon “Rolly.”
Following the distribution of roof sheets and shelter materials, the PRC gave out cash assistance for the livelihood efforts of 163 families in barangays Pagsangahan and Katipunan in San Miguel, Catanduanes this week.
Prior to these cash distributions, seminars were conducted for the residents in order to help them choose which livelihood programs are the best fit for their communities and areas.
“Masarap tulungan ang mga taong tinutulungan din ang kanilang sarili (It's nice to help people who also help themselves),” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon.
The PRC, Gordon said, is not a “dole out” organization because it helps the people who help themselves.
“We give them help but not just temporarily, we help them so that they can improve their lives after the disaster struck,” Gordon added in a mix of English and Filipino.
PRC said that beneficiaries of the program each received a total of P10,000 as start-up funds for their chosen livelihood.
Aside from San Miguel, four other municipalities in Catanduanes which include Gigmoto, Baras, Bato and Virac are also to receive such assistance from the PRC.
