Thye met last July 19, 2021 when Jean Rubico, 20, went to the vaccination site in Sto. Tomas, Batangas for her second dose of vaccine. This was reported in the Sept. 12 episode of On Record. On the other hand, Wendel Tibor, 23, went to work that day—his first day of work of a government employee and he was assigned at the registration area.
As fate would have had it, the two felt sparks between each other and it was meant that Jean approached Wendel for to register. As soon as she entered the room, "para akong nakakita ng anghel noon, para talagang na-starstruck ako noon."
From that second he got a glimpse of her, he knew that he just had to get to know Jean. Wendel gushes, "Alam niyo po yung parang na-love at first sight nga po sa nakita ko?”
Little did he know that Jean found him attractive as well. She spotted Wendel right away, telling her older sister who was with her at that time, "Ang gwapo!"
As soon as Wendel asked for her name—for registration purposes, he added her right away on Facebook. Right after her vaccination, Wendel checked on her. After two days, he decided to visit her at home. Wendel wanted to ask permission from her parents if he could court their daughter. "Nung nagpaalam talaga siya na manlilingaw, iyun na po talaga yung parang sweet siya sa akin, kasi sa parents ko po talaga siya nagpaalam," explains Jean.
Another destiny came in the form of Wendel and Jean's fathers being friends, too! "Na-shock po talaga ako nung nalaman ko iyon. Kasi wala po talaga akong idea na ang parents namin ay super close," says Wendel. Even Jean adds, "Parang destiny daw po kasi parang fifteen years na po silang magkakilala, ang papa namin pareho." But despite being friends for more than a decade, the two young individuals never had the chance to meet.
And the two became a couple last August 21 with Jean posting a TikTok video that she said yes to Wendel. She prepared a cake that said "Officially yours" to Wendel who was just surprised at first to see the writing. "Surprised na surprised po talaga ako nung araw na iyon," Wendel remembers.
“Bonus na lang po talaga yung maganda, e. Napakabait po, ma-sorpresa, kaya ko po talagang nagustuhan si Jean," he says of his girlfriend, while Jean is also all praises for him, “Sobrang matured niya po talagang mag-handle ng emotion, lalo na po sa mga situations."
