Parishes in the Archdiocese of Manila will hold a second collection on National Migrants Sunday (NMS), September 26.
"As we have done during the past NMS, we request all parishes, shrines, and chaplaincies to take up a second collection this Sunday," Fr. Reginald Malicdem, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Manila, said in a circular letter dated Sept. 13.
"Please remit the collections to the RCAM Treasury Office," he added.
The NMS is a special Sunday celebrated by the Philippine Church dedicated to the sacrifices and heroism of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families, and in line with the Vatican's World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR).
"We pray for all OFWs, especially during this pandemic, knowing that many of them are front liners," said Malicdem.
In the Archdiocese of Manila, part of the culmination activities of the 2021 NMS will be the Eucharistic celebration to be held at the San Jose Manggagawa Parish in Manuguit, Tondo at 10 a.m. to be presided by our Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula. Meanwhile, Malicdem said, the Apostleship of the Sea, the church institution doing the ministry for seafarers, will also celebrate on the same day, its 26th year of the National Seafarers' Day.
In view of this, he asked everyone to also remember those "who have died while aboard and their families who were not able pay their last respects, those who were infected with the COVID-19 virus, and those who are in anguish and difficult circumstances."
