Fire razes vaccines in Ilocos Norte town health office


SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte – More than 400 vials of assorted vaccines, including some COVID-19 vaccines have been destroyed after a fire broke out at the municipal health office here Friday, Sept. 10.

SFO1 Sherwin Santos disclosed that they received a call from a concerned citizen around 7:11 p.m on Friday.

Initial investigation revealed fire started at the storage room for the medical supplies located on the second floor of the building.

“Base sa aming inisyal na imbestigasyon, faulty electrical wiring ang posibleng pinagmulan ng sunog (Based on our investigation, a faulty electric wiring may have started the fire),” he told the Manila Bulletin in an interview on Saturday.

Santos said the vaccine cooler and refrigerator were destroyed including the ceiling of the laboratory and the adjacent room.

He added that no casualties or injuries have been recorded as soon as it was declared fire out about 7:39 p.m.

As of Friday, Ilocos Norte has vaccinated almost 200,000 of its residents against the dreaded COVID-19.
