Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco said the national government should just stick to the old quarantine classifications.

“My humble suggestion is doon na lang tayo sa ECQ (enhanced community quarantine), MECQ (modified enhanced community quarantine), GCQ (general community quarantine),” Tiangco told DZMM in an interview Friday.

Tiangco said the new quarantine classification introduced by the national government which uses an alert level system is confusing.

The implementation of the new system was recalled the night before its supposed implementation on Sept. 8.

“Kung natuloy yung GCQ with Alert Level, ang mangyayari nun GCQ and Alert Level 4 parang lumalabas pareho lang sila ng MECQ (If the GCQ with Alert Level pushed through, what will happen is we will have GCQ and Alert Level 4 in place which is the same as MECQ),” the mayor said.

The Navotas mayor said the new quarantine guidelines will pose difficulties not only for the public but for the local government units which will implement it.

Tiangco, meanwhile, said he, along with other Metro Manila mayors who compose the Metro Manila Council, had asked the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to study the possible easing of restrictions for fully-vaccinated individuals.

“Ang kahilingan po ng Metro Manila mayors ay pag aralan ng panel of experts...ano yung pwedeng pagluwag sa fully vaccinated...para makaabante na tayo at makausad na papunta sa sinasabing medyo normal na buhay (The request of Metro Manila mayors is for the panel of experts to study...in which aspects can restrictions be eased for fully vaccinated individuals...so that we can move forward and move to what we call the slightly normal life),” he said.
