Personnel of the PCG Substation Cajidiocan discovered and rescued the endangered green sea turtle while conducting maritime patrol off Barangay Sugod.

The green sea turtle measured 108 centimeters long and 96 centimeters wide.

The Coast Guard personnel coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for an assessment and evaluation.

According to the wildlife organization World Wild Fund (WWF), green sea turtles are classified as endangered species.

Green sea turtles are threatened by overharvesting of their eggs, hunting of adults, being caught in fishing gear, and loss of nesting beach sites, it said.
