Another game was postponed by the PBA due to health and safety protocols Sunday, Sept. 5, with last season’s Philippine Cup semifinal rematch between Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Meralco rescheduled to a later date.

The league made the announcement hours before the scheduled 4:35 p.m. tipoff between the Gin Kings and Bolts at the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Other matches on the schedule will push through with streaking Terrafirma taking on winless Blackwater at 2 p.m. while the heavyweight battle pitting unbeaten TNT and second place Magnolia was moved from 7 p.m. to the original 4:35 p.m. start time of the postponed Ginebra-Meralco duel.

No details were given but teams are required to take antigen tests on the morning of their scheduled games as part of the league’s stringent COVID-19 protocols.

A match between San Miguel Beer and Alaska was postponed the other day in accordance with the same protocols.

Ginebra and Meralco were supposed to slug it off for the first time since Game 5 of last year’s semifinal series at the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Center.

The Gin Kings prevailed the do-or-die affair, 83-80, on Scottie Thompson’s corner three in the final seconds.

Ginebra went on to win the championship under a bubble setup by defeating TNT in five games.

But Ginebra is off to a flat start this conference with a 2-3 record while Meralco is in third at 5-2, though smarting from a 91-76 defeat to TNT two days earlier.
