Three colleges in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) were allowed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to resume face-to-face classes on a limited basis.
CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera led the awarding of certificate of authority to reopen limited face-to-face classes to the Institute of Business, Science, and Medical Arts, Inc.; Luna Gaco Colleges, Inc.; and Occidental Mindoro State College.
Limited face-to-face classes in these colleges, De Vera said, will be limited to medical and allied health courses or programs which are allowed by President Duterte and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for now.
During the virtual press conference, De Vera stressed the importance of allowing HEIs that offer medical and allied health sciences to hold face-to-face classes.
“There are degree programs or courses wherein if the students were not able to do hands-on or face-to-face, they will not be allowed to graduate,” he said in a mix of English and Filipino.
In midwifery, for example, De Vera said that the law requires the student to fulfill certain requirements - such as the number of deliveries - before he or she is allowed to graduate.
De Vera said that CHED specifically pushed for the implementation of face-to-face classes in allied health sciences and medicine because hands-on learning and experience are crucial for these professions.
These three colleges, De Vera said, are included in the 118 HEIs nationwide that have been allowed to conduct limited face-to-face classes.

Meanwhile, CHEDRO-MIMAROPA Regional Director Joselito Alisuag, thanked CHED for allowing the three colleges in the region to resume limited face-to-face classes.
The three colleges were allowed to reopen limited face-to-face classes after complying with the guidelines set by CHED and the Department of Health (DOH) as stated in Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1 Series 2021.
