Olsim to exploit Nguyen's ground game weakness

Team Lakay's Jenelyn Olsim looks to capitalize on her improved ground game against Vietnamese foe Bi Nguyen in their atomweight mixed martial arts bout in ONE: Battleground III on Friday, Aug. 27 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

"As far as I can see from reviewing her fights, she’s not used to going to the ground. She most likely in the stand-up game. So I think her weak part is her ground game," said Olsim, who hopes to continue her winning ways after beating Brazilian Maira Mazar last March.

The 24-year-old Olsim, however, insisted that Nguyen would want to take the match standing at both feet and cited that the Vietnamese is most comfortable with boxing.

Olsim, confident with her striking skills as well, sees no problem if that's the case.

"I'm also comfortable with my striking skills, so maybe we'll be more with our striking," said Olsim, who owns a 4-2 record. "The fans will be expecting a technical game in this fight, expect action."

Nguyen, for her part, has three wins and three losses in ONE Championship with an overall record of 6-6.

She last saw action and entered win column last May with a split decision win against India's Ritu Phogat.

"I actually admire Bi Nguyen, personally. I like her fighting spirit and the spirit in her that she never gives up easily," added Olsim, also ranked No. 5 in the strawweight.

"But I think I’m ready for this. I have been fighting for seven years now and I want to test my skills and my limits. So bring it on!"
