Go still not interested in presidency despite having Duterte as running mate

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said on Tuesday, August 24 that he is still not keen to run for president.

Go issued the statement after the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) confirmed that President Duterte has accepted the nomination to be the party’s vice presidential candidate in the upcoming May 2022 national elections.

“I am still not interested. Nakatutok ako sa aking tungkulin bilang Senador upang tulungan ang bansa na malampasan ang krisis na ating hinaharap (I am focused on my work as a senator to help our nation overcome the current crisis),” Go said.

“Bakuna muna bago pulitika. Mas mabuti unahin niyo na muna yung mga interesado na tumakbong Pangulo. (Vaccine first before politics. It would be better if you first talk to those interested to run for president),” the senator said.

Cabinet Secretary and PDP-Laban’s executive vice president Karlo Nograles confirmed that Duterte has accepted the endorsement to be the party’s vice presidential candidate.

The PDP-Laban is endorsing the Go-Duterte tandem in next year’s polls and are only waiting for the two officials to accept the nomination.

Go had said then that he would not run for president if Duterte is not his running mate.

Nograles said their nomination would be taken up in their upcoming national convention in September 8.
