DOTr logs over 1M free train rides for vaccinated APORs


Beneficiaries of the government's free train ride program for vaccinated Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs) have already breached the one million mark, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) disclosed on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

Based on its data, the DoTr said a total of 1,178,048 vaccinated APORs have so far availed of the free ride since the first day of its implementation on August 3.

DoTr Arthur P. Tugade earlier announced that the free train ride program for the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) will continue even Metro Manila was placed under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until August 31.

Meanwhile, here are the inclusive hours of free rides per rail line:

• MRT-3

7 a.m. - 9 a.m.

5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

• LRT-2

5 a.m. - 7 a.m.

9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

• PNR

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Qualified passengers are reminded to present their vaccination cards and identification cards such as company ID as proof to avail of the free ride.

According to Tugade, the move is part of the Department's efforts to support the government's national vaccination program and encourage more people to get their jabs.

"This is one way of walking the good path towards the realization of new normal," he explained.
