Yuka Saso finishes at joint 39th

Yuka Saso had a roller-coaster final round as she carded a three-over par 75 to finish tied for 39th in the AIG Women’s British Open Sunday (Monday morning in Manila) at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland.

Saso, who started the final round in joint 27th at three-under for the tournament, committed a double-bogey right on the first hole. She made a birdie on 2 but bogeyed two of the next three holes.

The 20-year-old Filipino-Japanese, reigning US Women’s Open champion, made a birdie on 5, but had a triple bogey on 9. Like the front nine, she started the back with a bogey on 10.

No longer in contention, Saso managed to improve her placing as she birdied on 11, 12 and 14 to finish even for the $4.5 million tournament with an aggregate score of 288.

Saso finished tied with Americans Brittany Lincicome and Megan Khang.

Anna Nordqvist of Sweden bagged the title after shooting a three-under par 69, beating three other golfers in Georgia Hall of England, Lizette Salas of the US and compatriot Madelene Sagstrom.

Nordqvist had a total score of 276, while Hall, who had a final round of 68, Sagstrom Salas and all finished at 277.

Nanna Koerstz Madsen of Denmark, Minjee Lee of Australia, Patty Tavatanakit of Thailandand amateur Leonie Harm finished tied for seventh at 279, while at solo ninth was Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn at 280.
