Chinese man killed, 2 wounded in Pasay City condo robbery

A Chinese man was killed in a robbery-holdup staged by four armed men in a condominium in Pasay City on Sunday. One of the suspects was also wounded during the incident.

Col. Cesar Paday-os, Pasay City police chief, identified the fatality as Wang Wei, 36, billeted at Anxin Condominium in Barangay 84, Taft Avenue, Pasay City.

Wei suffered a gunshot wound in the back of the head and was declared dead on arrival at the Pasay City General Hospital.

Another Chinese national, Han Lu, 48, also residing in the same condominium was treated for a gunshot wound in the right leg.

One of the suspects identified as Kenneth Padilla, 23, a Food Panda driver, and a resident of Barangay 104, Pasay City, sustained bullet wounds in the abdomen and back of the body. He is now under tight police watch at the same hospital.

Paday-os said four tenants of the condominiums -- Chen Nou, 23, and Chin Nuo, 23, Chun Li, 20, businesswoman; and Andy Ang, 30, a Filipino-Chinese – were also robbed by Padilla’s group.

According to the police, condominium stay-in security guard Reynan Gandamon, 38, claimed that at about 7:00 p.m. he was about to eat dinner when one of the tenants, Li, knocked on the gate of the condominium.

Gandaman said that upon opening the gate, three of the suspects, armed with a .38-caliber gun and a .9mm pistol, entered the compound and declared the holdup.

Once inside, the suspects ordered the guard and Li to enter the latter’s unit where they divested P45,000 cash and a cellular phone.

From Room 103, the suspects immediately went to the 5th floor where victims Chen Nou, Chin Nou, Lu and Wei were staying, and declared the holdup.

Chen Nou told police that he was inside the kitchen when the suspects entered their unit and demanded cash; but since they don’t have big money, the suspects took their cellular phones.

Chen Nou reportedly resisted and a scuffle ensued between him and Padilla until he was able to grab the suspect’s gun and shot him.

The police said that during the scuffle, one of the suspects reportedly shot Wei, hitting him in the back of his head and right abdomen. Lu was hit in the right leg.

The three other suspects also took Chen’s cellular phone and cash amounting to P78,000 and fled, leaving behind their wounded cohort.

Police recovered the .38-caliber revolver and the .9mm pistol used by the suspects.
