Hontiveros grateful for LP’s endorsement of her senatorial bid

Senator Risa Hontiveros on Sunday, August 23 said she is grateful to be part of the Liberal Party’s (LP) list of senatorial candidates in the upcoming May 2022 national elections.

“I am grateful for the confidence of the Liberal Party. It is an honor to be part of their proposed list of ‘senatoriables’,” Hontiveros said in a statement.

“We, in my party, Akbayan, are also in the process of developing and uniting alternative choices of leaders for the 2022 Elections. Our lines of communication have always been open to other parties - including LP, our old coalition partner - to strengthen our alliances,” said the lawmaker who is a Akbayan stalwart.

Hontiveros said Akbayan is charting its own course and remains committed to building a united front that recognizes the responsibility of fighting for and maintaining democratic principles.

“Akbayan’s fight for a fair and just society is also the fight of every other Filipino. We vow to continue to do our part in forging a broad and stable coalition,” she said.

The progressive lawmaker, who is a member of the Senate minority bloc, led by Sen. Franklin Drilon, who is an LP stalwart, is now among the first five people that may comprise the senatorial slate of the former ruling political party for next year’s polls.

Other potential senatorial candidates the LP is endorsing are Senators Francis Pangilinan, the party president and Sen. Leila de Lima, also a member of the Senate minority bloc.

The LP is also considering former Senator Paolo “Bam” Aquino IV and lawyer Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno to be part of its senatorial slate.
