Former Las Pinas City Mayor Vergel Aguilar dies of heart ailment

The family of former Las Pinas City Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar announced the passing of their patriarch on August 20 at the age of 74.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar said her husband succumbed to a heart ailment at about 4:12 a.m. at St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City.

In her statement, Aguilar said the legacy and selfless public service that her husband had rendered as Las Pinas mayor for 18 years will serve as her inspiration as the current chief executive of the city.

“Nene, it pains all of us that you are no longer with us, but we know that you have accomplished your mission in this world, not only to your family and loved ones, but to the hundreds of families you have served and supported throughout your years in service,” Aguilar said.

“Your years as the local chief executive have led to the unprecedented growth of our city. We will miss you very much,” the lady mayor added.

Before he entered public service, Nene was a property developer and business man.

Prodded by his family to take up the legacy of his father, Dr. Filemon Aguilar, also a former Las Piñas mayor and congressman, Nene ran for public office in 1992.
