Holy Smoke! This easy-to-use disinfectant kills coronavirus

CLOUDY AND COVID-FREE Sanivir Smoke in action

As of writing, there are 207 million recorded cases of COVID-19 in the entire world. Around 4.3 million have succumbed to the disease, and 4.7 billion vaccine doses have been administered. In the Philippines, cases total to almost 1.74 million, of which over 30,000 have died.

Just when the global health crisis was seemingly improving, new variants emerged and proved that not even the young, healthy, and vaccinated are safe. The fact that the new strains are able to infect those already vaccinated has also dampened the hopes of many. To add fuel to the flame, the number of children contracting the illness has been rising.

So far, according to data available, those inoculated are still vulnerable to the new variants. What’s certain, however, is that Delta (B.1.617.2) is more infectious than Alpha (B.1.1.7), the fourth and first strains respectively. And while we have been struggling to handle Delta, the virus has again evolved into what is now known as Lambda. Scientists and health practitioners are coming to the conclusion that this latest type of COVID-19 is potentially far more vaccine-resistant and contagious than all the variants thus far. To make matters worse, Lambda is already in the Philippines.

In this time of great uncertainty, everyone must take extra measures to be careful, and responsible. The best course of action is to follow all COVID-19 precautions, from social distancing to government-imposed safety protocols, and regulations. Now more than ever, effort on everyone’s part in warding off the deadly disease is critical.

Lockdown has once again been reimposed. An essential question that needs to be discussed is: Does closing down establishments, businesses, and other sources of livelihood help ease the pandemic problem? Is the lockdown an appropriate short-term move? Socio-economic planning secretary Karl Chua estimates that income lost per week during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) amounts to ₱19.6 billion, while ₱14.7 billion has been lost as a result of modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ). If we survive the virus, the economic recession would be the end of us.

That said, the only remedy to the economic decline is if offices, malls, restaurants, and other indoor facilities reopen. A certain product might just be the key to make it happen.

Offense is the best defense. Among the means to safeguard the health of your relatives, friends, staff, the people you come in contact with every day, and of course, yourself, is by destroying the virus from its source, the air.

Enter Sanivir Smoke. The best arsenal at our disposal to win against corona is contained in a can. In an online talk titled “Next level safety protocols for the new normal,” chemist Pinky Tobiano introduced the product.

The fumigant purges an area of all airborne virus, bacteria, and fungi to the highest level. It is excellent for those who value utmost sanitation in their important spaces. Surfaces are cleaned too. “It kills the airborne-circulated virus, and reaches kahit yung kasulok-sulukan ng (every nook and cranny of) air conditioners, computers, laptops, keyboards, gadgets,” she said. Likewise, it gets rids of yeast and molds, and suffocates bed bugs and other insects.

“The particle size of a smoke disinfectant is one micron. This is very light. It, therefore, stays in the air for seven to 14 days depending on the disinfected area’s foot traffic,” furthers the CEO of progressive laboratories and Qualibet testing services.

Simple, reliable, versatile, Sanivir Smoke can be utilized in several types of enclosed rooms, whether at home, workplace, dining areas, warehouses, or cars without the need for special and expensive equipment.

A 25-gram canister covers areas of 30-50 square meters, ideal for living areas, automobiles, small condos, bedrooms, and conference rooms. Offices, warehouses, restaurants, and other areas that range between 500 and 550 square meters need one kilogram of Sanivir Smoke.

The product contains 3.5 Glutaraldehyde and seven percent Orthophenylphenol, two potent ingredients that eliminates the coronavirus, verified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and well-established laboratories. It is the only smoke disinfectant approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This innovative method is far more effective than fogging, misting, Ultraviolet (UV), or any spray disinfection. Sanivir Smoke is certified by international laboratories, including the Instituto Valenciano de Microbiologia and leading biosecurity firm Bioplagen.

To apply the dry smoke is fairly easy. Shake the can horizontally to loosen the powder inside. Take out the wick’s plastic covering, then place the can on a non-flammable surface such as ceramic, tile, or wooden block. Light the wick and leave the room for six to eight hours. It is vital that the room be vacated for the smoke’s maximum effect. While the smoke has no adverse effect on humans and pets, avoid inhaling it as it may cause breathing irritation. Ventilate the area for an hour before using it again to remove the remaining smoke inside.

The anti-COVID item has made its way into the venues of the most discerning. Institutions that have partnered with and use Sanivir Smoke are The Farm at San Benito, Balesin Island Club, SM Mall of Asia, Belo Medical Group, among others.

It is also among the top disinfectants for residential use. Lifestyle personality Cat Arambulo-Antonio trusts the product as her household’s disinfectant of choice. “Prevention is always better and cheaper than trying to get cured at the hospital,” Cat said.

Remember that a 25-gram canister only costs ₱1,750. The average hospital bill of a COVID-19 patient is ₱1.3 million.
