Angono, Rizal LGU reports 2 Delta variant cases


The municipal government of Angono, Rizal reported two cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

In her virtual message through Facebook live, Angono Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said one of the two Delta variant cases is a 25-year old male who has no comorbidity and has recovered on August 6, 2021. His close contact is asymptomatic.

Another Delta variant case involves a 28-year old man who has mild symptoms and who recovered on August 2. He has three close contacts who are all asymptomatic.

Calderon said the Department of Health-Region 4-A initially reported three Delta variant cases in Angono but upon verification made by the local health office, it was learned that the first case, who was declared dead-on-arrival (DOA), was a resident of Antipolo and not of Angono.

The local chief executive also disclosed that the town has 24 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, majority of which have been fully vaccinated. There are 94 active cases in Angono.

Municipal Health Officer Dr. Jose Lozo, who also appeared in the same Facebook live with Mayor Calderon, urged residents to continue practicing the minimum health standards, wear face mask and face shield, and be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Calderon also encouraged residents who were vaccinated outside the town to inform the municipal government through a registration system that will be launched.

As of August 13, there were 10,194 residents and workers who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 which is equivalent only to 12 percent of the target herd immunity of 80,000. The town has a population of 123,000.

Vice Mayor Gerardo Calderon warned residents that the Delta variant is more contagious. He also urged the residents to avoid going out of their homes.

Municipal Administrator Allan Maniaol said around 1,500 Sinovac vaccines will be administered on Friday for those belonging to the A1 to A4 categories. Rizal Province us under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) from August 16 to 31.
