Pisay student named as overall Best Speaker in int’l debate tilt


A student of the Philippine Science High School-Cordillera Administrative Region Campus (PSHS-CARC) has emerged as a victor at the World Schools Debate Championships (WSDC) hosted by Macau from July 26 to Aug. 6.

The PSHS System extended its felicitations to Robert Nelson Leung for bagging the “Overall Best Speaker” award.

“The Philippine Science High School System congratulates Robert Nelson Leung of the Philippine Science High School - Cordillera Administrative Region Campus (PSHS-CARC) for having awarded the Overall Best Speaker title at The World Schools Debate Championships (WSDC) August 14,” it said in a Facebook post on Sunday, Aug. 15.

Organized and hosted by Macau, the 2021 WSDC was participated in by 76 countries. The annual global debate competition was conducted through Zoom and other online platforms.

“WSDC is considered to be the ‘Olympics of high school debate’ by debate societies,” the PSHS noted.

The competition which started in 1988 uses the World Schools format, the global standard for high school debating, it said.

Meanwhile, the PSHS also congratulated PSHS-Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Region Campus for winning the Grand Prize in the Filipino Science Hub Research Contest - National Level for their research on “The Development of a Mobile Application as a Stock Management and Reporting System for Taal Lake Fisheries and Freshwater Sarding Conservation”

The team members are Pearl Gabrielle G. Budiongan, Yosef Christian M. Cuenca, Jamaica Alen D. Garcia. Michelle Manglicmot serves as their research adviser.
