K-9 dog detects drugs in parcel in Cagayan


ABULUG, Cagayan – A K-9 narcotic detection dog helped police detect a parcel allegedly containing illegal drugs in Barangay Libertad here Saturday.

The recipient was identified as Elbert “Ebbet” Balicat, 20, college student and a resident of Barangay San Jose, Luna, Apayao.

Investigation showed Ebbet had just picked up a package allegedly containing illegal drugs from a well-known courier company in Barangay Libertad. However, an informant called the police about the illegal drugs stashed in the package that Ebbet was about to receive.

A team led by Police Executive Master Sgt. Jomar Pamittan, Municipal Executive Senior Police Officer, under the direct supervision of Police Major Norly Gamal, chief of police here, went to the courier branch and found Ebbet.

PNP personnel asked Ebbet about the parcel’s contents but did not answer. But he gave consent to the PNP to open the parcel.

A K9 dog with the team was used to determine if the parcel had illegal drugs. “The K9 dog seated/responded as a sign that the said package contains illegal drugs,” police said.

The chairman of Barangay Libertad and a media representative witnessed the opening of the package and three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu were found.

In addition, one small heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu in the back cover of the cellular phone of the suspect was seized.

The suspect and pieces of evidence were brought to Abulug police station for documentation.
