Completion of P48-M Sulu road projects eyed by end of 2021


COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Public Works in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MPW-BARMM) is targeting the completion of P48 million worth of road projects in Sulu province this year.

MPW-BARMM Minister Eduard U. Guerra said Saturday, August 14 the projects are being undertaken by the 1st District Engineering Office in Sulu.

“We remain confident that the road projects would all be finished by the end of this year,” Guerra said in an interview with reporters here.

Funded under the MPW’s 2021 budget, the projects include the concreting of the 2-km. Hawani-Latih road in Patikul town worth P30 million; the concreting of the 500-meter Kasulutan Road in Barangay Bus-Bus, Jolo worth PHP8 million; and the upgrading of the 500-meter Jolo port terminal road worth P10 million.

He said the groundbreaking of one of the projects, the concreting of the Kasulutan Road, was only held on August 6.

“I laud the personnel of the district engineering office for their active performance amid the challenges brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,” Guerra said.

For this year alone, the MPW has an approved budget of more than P2.2 billion for the concreting of various roads in Sulu, many of which are ongoing.
