Iloilo City mayor proposes vaccination of minors vs COVID by end-October

ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jerry Treñas here is proposing the vaccination against COVID-19 of children or those below 18 years of age by the last quarter of the year.

“As mayor of Iloilo City, I propose that we start vaccinating the minors starting at the end of October or November this year,” Treñas said in a statement.

“These young minors are the future of our nation and we need to make sure that those who will come after us are also protected,” Treñas added.

Based on the mayor’s pronouncements, those who are in the age range of 12 to 17 can start the registration process at their respective barangays.

Treñas made the pronouncement after Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. of the national government’s Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) against COVID-19 proposed the inclusion of children into the vaccination program of the government.

This came as children infected with COVID-19 are being admitted at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila.

“I hope the IATF will reconsider its decision and approve the proposal of Secretary Galvez,” Treñas added.
