Dump truck plows into tricycles in Antipolo City; 5 injured


At least five people were injured when a dump truck plowed into several tricycles in Antipolo City, Saturday morning, August 14.

An initial report from Antipolo City Police Station showed that at around 6:30 a.m., a red Shacman dump truck with plate number NEK-1079 was traversing a descending portion of the provincial road at Sitio Junction when its brakes malfunctioned, hitting several tricycles that were parked on the roadside.

A report from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) revealed that at least five persons were injured, including tricycle drivers and a female pedestrian.

Witnesses told CDRRMO rescuers that the truck slammed into a variety store after hitting several tricycles.

Miguel Morillo, the Rizal Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, said the injured victims were rushed to the Rizal Provincial Hospital System Annex 2.

Antipolo police identified the truck driver as Romeo Gacho, a resident of Pampanga.

The truck was loaded with gypsum, a chemical compound used for making cement, according to barangay personnel who initially responded to the site of the accident.
