ILOILO CITY – An additional 6,958 cops and non-uniform personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Western Visayas will be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Police Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda, regional police director, said that Police Regional Office (PRO-6) is setting a 100 percent target of vaccinating all of the cops and staff with the arrival of 8,000 doses of AztraZeneca’s AZD1222 vaccines.
“This is for our protection. We are very lucky that our government is looking into the welfare of the policemen who serve as the frontliners during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Miranda said.
Dr. Adriano Suba-an, director of the Department of Health Western Visayas (DOH Region 6), supervised the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines.
The COVID-19 vaccines will be utilized by those who have not been inoculated yet in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
Of the 13,549 cops and non-uniform staff in the region, 4,709 have been totally vaccinated while 1,882 have received their first dose. “We want to achieve 100 percent vaccination,” Miranda added.
There are some cops and police station staff who have already received their COVID-19 vaccines via the local government units (LGUs) where they are stationed.
