2 babies die of COVID-19 in Bataan


BALANGA, Bataan – Two baby boys were among the 15 fatalities of COVID-19 listed in the province of Bataan in the last two days.

Bataan Gov. Albert S. Garcia, citing a report from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), said an 11-month old boy from the municipality of Dinalupihan and a four-month old boy from the town of Hermosa died last Aug. 9 and Aug. 10, respectively due to complications of COVID-19.

Cause of death of the four month old baby from Hermosa -- multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, acute respiratory stress syndrome, and severe COVID 19.

Cause of death of 11 month old baby from Dinalupihan -- hypovolemic shock, acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration, and severe COVID.

The rest of the fatalities were nine women and four men from Mariveles, Abucay, Limay, Balanga City, and Pilar with ages ranging from 39 to 85 years.

The total active cases of COVID-19 in the province is now at 2,355. There are now 34 known cases of Delta variant in Bataan from a total of 15,263 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are now 555 deaths and 12,353 recoveries amidst increasing reports of community transmission affecting whole families across all municipalities.

The effect was widely felt as public and private hospitals in the province continue to struggle as most are already overwhelmed by COVID patients. The provincial online bed tracker application reveals an 80.6 percent occupancy rate in seven public hospitals while there is a 63.95 percent occupancy in eight private hospitals already.
