Woman hacked, burned to death by former lover


A 43-year-old woman was hacked and burned to death by her drug-crazed former lover reportedly due to jealousy in Barangay San Juan, San Miguel, Bulacan on Saturday, August 7.

Police identified the victim as Margil Payawal Aquino-Miranda. A relative, identified as Michelle Dilgencio Miranda, 45, was injured.

The suspect, identified as Emelito Tanala Vinas, 46, former live-in-partner of the slain victim, also of Barangay San Juan, immediately fled. He was arrested by the San Miguel police in a nearby village a few hours after the incident.

Based on the report of San Miguel police chief, Lt. Col. Jordan G. Santiago to Col. Lawrence B. Cajipe, Bulacan police director, at around 10:45 a.m. on August 7, a concerned citizen reported a fire incident at the house of the victim.

Initial investigation disclosed that at around 9 a.m., Vinas arrived at Miranda's house carrying a bolo. Michelle tried to pacify the suspect but she was hacked in the hand. Vinas then charged into the house of Margil where he tried to hit her husband, identified as Miguel Miranda, with the bolo.Miguel managed to escape. Margil, who was inside the house, was hacked by Vinas. Afterwhich, he set the house on fire. Fifteen houses were gutted by the fire.

The San Miguel police said charges of homicide, attempted homicide, and arson are now being prepared against Vinas.
