SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A landslide that was caused by heavy downpour damaged a gasoline station, three tricycles and two motorcycles just before the break of dawn Wednesday, August 11 along a diversion road here.
The gasoline station’s cashier, Jam Celeste said one of his co-workers called his attention at around 3:00 a.m. and frantically told him to leave the cashier’s booth.
“My co-worker said he initially felt someone threw a stone at him and when he looked back, he was shocked to see the mud slide. He then immediately told me to get out quick,” said Celeste.
A concrete wall that was supposed to resist landslide movement could not sustain the force of the avalanche and eventually gave in.
While no casualties were reported, it caused heavy damage to the gasoline station which was located beside a hill.
The City Engineer’s office is now coordinating with concerned contractors to provide equipment to be used for clearing operation.
