BACOLOD CITY – A seven-year-old boy, himself recovered from serious illnesses, thought of a way to help in the medication of two sick children here instead of buying a video game console.
In a report of Radyo Bandera Bacolod, Derek Sanchez Sanson sells notebooks for P100, which covers were painted with customized designs made by him.
Derek was diagnosed with an illness in his intestines when he was one year old. Then after a year, he was again diagnosed with a kidney disease.
It was a miracle for his family that he survived the illness at a very young age.
Derek started to paint after he attended an online art class in February.
According to Derek’s mother Gianne Sanchez Sanson, Derek previously wanted to buy an Xbox out of the earnings from his paintings. But, when he learned about the illness of his seven-year-old classmate, he decided to donate his earnings for the treatment of his friend, who has a brain tumor.
In fact, aside from his classmate, he also wanted to donate some of the funds to one of his mom’s ballet students, who is intubated in a hospital in Manila for 11 days now.
“We started out sharing the proceeds of the paintings of Derek to my four-year-old ballet student, while the proceeds of the notebooks were donated to his classmate,” Mrs. Sanson said in an interview with Manila Bulletin.
The support has been very overwhelming, according to Mrs. Sanson.
She said that they have also sent donated notebooks to Bacolod Boy’s Home, and will be sending to Kalipay Foundation, as well as to children with cancer, and the Puluy-an Youth.
“We are overwhelmed with the number of donated gulfportpharmacy.com notebooks especially by family, friends and even strangers from Manila, Singapore and the United States,” she added.
Instead of mailing the notebooks for a fee, many of them decided to let us donate them here, she said.
She said their beneficiaries are increasing in number because of the support.
Derek’s elder sister is also helping him paint more notebooks, as they are also planning to send it to children who were affected in the Marawi seige.
