COVID-19 cases in Cagayan on the rise

CAGAYAN – The Cagayan Province is slowly seeing a rise in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases as patients are now seen waiting in line at parking areas of hospitals hooked up to oxygen tanks while staying inside their cars.

On Monday night, August 9, 265 new confirmed cases of the virus have been recorded and seven deaths, according to a report from the Cagayan Provincial Information Office.

As a result, the province has 1,976 active cases.

Tuguegarao City once again took the lead with 73 cases of the virus, bringing the number of active cases monitored to 635 in the province’s only city and is now considered the epicenter of the virus in Region 2.

Baggao town now ranks second with 63 new active cases of the virus while Gonzaga town has tallied 44 cases.

Meanwhile, seven COVID 19 deaths recorded Monday came from Tuguegarao City, Sto. Niño, Solana, Pamplona, Lal-lo, Iguig and Baggao.

Gov. Manuel Mamba also feared that some might have died somewhere.

“Ang nakakabahala kasi dito ay, out of the nine deaths, isa lang ang namatay sa Cagayan Valey Medical Center and all others died somewhere. I think, most of these, pending ang details, baka namatay na sa mga bahay bahay dahil naka-home quarantine,” Gov. Mamba told during his interview on national tv station.

In total, Cagayan had 47 death cases in just the first nine days of this August, while 519 since the beginning of the pandemic last year.
