Baguio logs P98-M infra damage from ‘habagat’


BAGUIO CITY – The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported an initial P98.5-million structural damage from the “habagat” enhanced by tropical cyclones from July 19 to Aug. 3.

CDRRMO Officer II Louie Glen Lardizabal said as of Aug. 3, public infrastructure damage totaling P80,685,000 were recorded; P17,685,000 in private infrastructure damage; and agricultural damage worth P146,914 with a total of P98,516,914.

Lardizabal said these are just rough estimates from Rapid Disaster and Needs Analysis (RDANA) conducted by the CDRRMO in collaboration with the offices of the city engineer, buildings and architecture, environment and parks management, and social welfare and development.

He said the city started to experience heavy monsoon rains as early as July 19, caused 82 soil erosion and landslides; 43 fallen trees; 15 collapsed rip-raps and walls; eight flooding incidents; five electrical problems or fallen electric posts; and four damaged canals and drainage.

The CDRRMO has undertaken continuous response and inspection of all reported incidents and monitoring of road conditions leading to Baguio and other national roads in coordination with the
