Comelec suspends voter registration in more areas


Voter registration in four provinces and three cities have also been suspended by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In separate advisories on Friday, August 6, the Comelec announced the suspension of voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in all Offices of the Election Officer in Laguna, Iloilo City, and Cagayan de Oro City from August 6 to15 due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

It also suspended voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in all Offices of the Election Officer in Cavite, Lucena City, Rizal, and Iloilo from August 6 to 15 due to the modified ECQ.

The poll body said satellite voter registration in barangays, malls, and other off-site venues is also included in the suspension.

On August 3, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez also announced the suspension of voter registration in the National Capital Region (NCR) during the implementation of the ECQ

The Inter Agency Task Force placed NCR under ECQ from August 6 to 20 to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

On Thursday, Malacañang announced the placing of Laguna, Iloilo City, and Cagayan de Oro City under ECQ as well as the imposition of MECQ in Cavite, Lucena City, Rizal, and Iloilo.
