PCG arrests 2 for illegal fishing in Antique


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) apprehended two motorbancas engaged in illegal fishing off Caluya, Antique on Saturday, July 31.

In an incident report released on Monday, Aug. 2, personnel of the PCG sighted two motorbancas MBCA Jerry Rose-3 and MBCA Jerry Rose-10 were using fine mesh nets and other fishing paraphernalia while fishing.

The arrested boat captains were identified as Melvin Operiano and Niño Andres were brought to Caluya Police Station for further investigation and filing appropriate charges.

The PCG said the fishermen violated the Municipal Ordinance no. 81-2014, which prohibits the use of said fishing gears in the municipal waters and other fishery management areas of Caluya.
