Personnel of the PCG District Northeastern Mindanao, maritime services units, and substations have repaired at least 14 lighthouses and maintained 18 lighthouses in the Caraga region or Region 13.

Commodore Luisito Sibayan, commander of the PCG Northeastern Mindanao, has declared full operational status of all lighthouses in the whole region as of last month.

The PCG said the lighthouses served as reference and aid of navigation to all vessels and mariners traveling in the area especially during night time and inclement weather.

The maintenance of all maritime aid of navigation was under the maritime safety function of the PCG stated under the Republic Act 9993 or the “Coast Guard Law of 2009.”
