DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña disclosed this during his weekly report on July 30.

“In line with the shift to the virtual space as the new platform as the work-from-home arrangement becomes the new normal, the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) will develop a cloud-based digital apparel prototyping platform,” he said.

He said the digital apparel prototyping platform will localize computer-aided engineering (CAE) software to include digital pattern making and 3D visualization.

“The platform will be equipped with a digital database of traditional Filipino wear, fabrics, along with the prototype Filipino sizing system developed through the earlier project that established the DOST-PTRI Textile Product Development Center,” de la Peña said.

“The development of the online platform for textile technologists, designers, manufacturers and customers is expected to bring a positively disruptive shift to local product development.”
