PNP records 82nd death from COVID-19


A 40-yearold police sergeant assigned at Camp Crame in Quezon City was the latest fatality of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronnie Olay said the 40-year old cop with a rank of Police Staff Sergeant was the 82nd PNP personnel who died of complications due to COVID-19.

“He was tested positive of the virus on July 11 and was immediately brought to a Quarantine Facility. On July 24, he was rushed to nearby hospital due to difficulty of breathing. On July 27, said cop died due with Acute Respiratory Failure and Pneumonia as underlying causes of death,” said Olay.

The official also disclosed that 156 more policemen were confirmed to be infected by the virus based on the latest report dated July 29.

The new infection brought to a total of 30,156 PNP personnel who were infected by the coronavirus since last year. The figure includes he 82 policemen from Quezon City Police District.

Olay said the PNP Health Service also recorded a total of 115 recoveries bringing the total to 29,117. Meanwhile there were still a total of 957 active cases in the police force.

He added that a total 36,504 or 16.71 percent PNP personnel are now fully vaccinated while 49,220 personnel have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
