LGUs valuable key in fighting Delta variant- Año


Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año attributed the country's fight effective fight so far against the Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to the role of the Local Government Units (LGUs).

In a press briefing with the President Wednesday night that lasted until the following morning, Año said with the LGUs’ total cooperation with the national COVID-19 Delta variant “effectively managed and controlled" the Delta variant transmission.

“Providing easy, simple, safe, and convenient, and hassle-free vaccination sites and systems ay nae-encourage po natin lalo ang mga ating kababayan upang magpabakuna (encourage the public to be vaccinated),” Año told President Duterte.

He stressed that the fully vaccinated individuals have better protection against the COVID-19 Delta variant stressing that the “our cooperation, participation from our countrymen will be instrumental to our success.,”

After the Department of Health’s (DOH's) confirmation of the COVID-19 Delta variant local transmission, Año said that the LGUs immediately initiated measures to protect their respective constituents and control the Delta variant from entering their respective jurisdictions.

Año also told the President of the decline in the number of violators of the mandatory use of face masks, from more than 50,000 last week to 34,766 while violators on mass gathering and physical distancing also dropped to 4,638 from the previous 12,724. (Chito A. Chavez)
